Legislative Update: Hawaii Imposes Penalties for
Violations Committed Against Elders
House Bill No. 1336.
Hawaii passed a bill imposing penalties under the Mortgage Brokers and
Solicitors Act for violations that are directed toward, targeted at, or
committed against persons 62 years of age or older (elders). Under the
new law, a person who commits a violation against an elder is subject to
a fine of up to $10,000 in addition to any other fines or penalties. The
bill becomes effective July 1, 2007.
